Ahtna private corporate lands are managed to prioritize customary and traditional game harvesting for shareholders and local tribal members.

Hunting Policy Overview

Ahtna lands are private property. Accessing Ahtna land without a valid permit is considered trespass under Alaska Statute. Crossing permits allow access to public hunting grounds, but crossing is closed during Moose hunting season.

Predator Hunting: Bear & Wolf Permits ($150/yr) allow hunting wolves, coyotes, brown and black bears outside of moose/caribou season.

Approved Guides: Hiring an Ahtna Permitted Guide allows commercial clients to hunt sheep and moose in authorized units.

Bison & Trapping Restrictions

ADF&G Bison Hunt Closure

Ahtna, Inc. does NOT issue land access permits associated with ADF&G Permit Nos. DI 450 & DI 454 bison hunts.

Trapping Prohibition

Standard hunting permits do NOT allow trapping on Ahtna lands. Trapping requests must be emailed to landdepartment@ahtna.net.

Copper River Salmon & Dipnet Fisheries

Fishing is the #1 recreational activity across the Ahtna region.

Thousands of anglers travel to the Copper River Basin for world-renowned Sockeye (Red) and King Salmon. Over 10,000 personal-use dipnet permits are issued annually for the Chitina Dipnet Fishery.

Ahtna Pay Stations Haley Creek, Eskilida Creek (south of O'Brien Creek), and Kotsina River (Copper River Bridge).

Chitina Village Lands O'Brien Creek and Salmon Point pay stations are managed separately by Chitina Native Corp.

Sport Fisheries Grayling and Dolly Varden trout fly fishing along Gulkana River and Cantwell streams.

In general, hunting by the general public is prohibited on Ahtna private lands. However, hunters can purchase a Land Access Permit to cross Ahtna lands to reach adjacent public hunting grounds (note: crossing access is closed during Moose hunting season).

No. Ahtna, Incorporated does not issue land access permits associated with ADF&G Permit Nos. DI 450 & DI 454 bison hunts.
