Governance

ANCSA (Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act)

Enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1971, ANCSA extinguished aboriginal land claims in Alaska in exchange for $962.5 million and 44 million acres of land, creating 13 regional Alaska Native corporations, including Ahtna, Incorporated.

Culture & Geography

Ahtna Nene

The traditional homeland of the Ahtna Athabascan people spanning over 28,000 square miles in the Copper River watershed of East-Central Alaska.

Stock & Governance

Class L Stock

A voting class of Ahtna stock established for eligible Alaska Native lineal descendants of original shareholders who were born after December 18, 1971.

Settlement Trust

The Ahtna HWT Settlement Trust established to provide tax-advantaged financial distributions, educational benefits, and long-term financial security for shareholders.

ANCSA Provision

Section 7(i) & 7(j) Revenue Sharing

Provisions under ANCSA requiring regional corporations to share 70% of net revenues derived from timber and subsurface natural resources (7(i)) with all 12 regional corporations, which then distribute portions (7(j)) to village corporations and at-large shareholders.
